This is the Day We Didnt Get Our I-171

I got soooooo prematurely excited today when the mail came! We've been hoping that our I-171 just might come anyday now in the mail. For those unfamiliar to adoption, once we get that paper in the mail, we are ready to send all of our paperwork to Ethiopia, meaning we are that much closer to bringing our baby home. Well, I went to the mailbox today and as usual quickly flip through the junk mail and bills to see if there is anything from the state. Well, there it was!!! A letter from the Dept of Safety. Yeah, well I got nervous excited inside wondering if I should wake my sleeping husband (he works nights) for the moment of opening the letter. I decided not to and it was a good thing!!!!! It was my new drivers license which expires on my B-day in the beginning of May! How stupid! I forgot I sent off for it. We need something from the Dept of Homeland Security, not the Dept of Safety! Can you tell I have been obssessing about this piece of paper! UGH!! Yeah, I guess this state of mind doesnt get any better as time goes on, just worse as you probably think you've missed the phone call waiting for the referral and travel dates. So, this post is about me not getting my I-171 today. But hey! Oh yeah, I could do a whole post about me getting a new drivers license today!

oh, how i feel your pain!! i keep thinking...what if they accidentally put it on neighbors box and they think it is junk and through it away. how long do you wait until you start to worry that something has happened to it?!!

i thought it was hard the first time around and it was only took 2 weeks after our fingerprints...that was nothing :)

hang in there, it can't be long now!

That's so funny! I have felt like that too when I was waiting for our official acceptance letter! This process makes us all a little crazy from time-to-time! We'll keep hoping for you guys!

That is really pretty funny! I can imagine the excitement, and then the letdown, and then the laughter! Good point on your comments about isolation. Good perspective! Hopefully your I 171 comes SOON!!

Argh...3 times now I've tried to post a comment and stupid blogger is not letting me do it. So now my post is not going to be as witty as the first try cuz now I'm slightly annoyed b/c I've typed this 3 times.

Anyway, I remember our mail lady telling me "not today, hun " but the funny think is that I don't remeber telling her about our adoption. Maybe I was just stalking her so much that she knew what I was waiting for...maybe she had other stalking adoptive parents?!? I also got really good at listening for the 'hum' of the mail truck in our neighborhood, then I would make a mad dash to the mail box to stand and wait for the mail. The kids were also highly trained to recognize said "hum". Sad.

Anyway, back to you...congrats on the updated liccense. Wouldn't want you to get caught driving on an expired license...then the I 171 H may never come!

Here's to getting your I 171H quickly!

ha, ha...i just got an e-mail with the comment from marissa!

i can also here the hum about 20 minutes before it arrives at our house. the girls and i just stand at the window and wait for it to get our house.

savannah said that she was going to pray for God to give the adoption stuff to the mail lady. i echoed her prayer last night! maybe God hand delivered it to her this morning :)

Wow that was a trip down memory lane for me. I can almost feel the anxiety and excittment and letdown. The mailman was pretty sure i had a crush on him as I would run out there before he was even to my mail box.. Poor guy hasn't seen me in over a month now...

Well here is hoping you get it soon! Hang in there, it will come!

I can relate to this too! I waited for ours for so long( nobody told us the gal processing it was out of town for 6 weeks untill after the fact) that I started to wonder if I had accidentally put it in the trash with the junk mail. I was just sure something had happened to it!But it did arrive and dont worry, your will too!

I really truly can relate, 7 weeks and counting, I keep thinking maybe it got lost, I try not to get excited when the mail comes, so maybe that will make it appear. The things we go through.......Erin

I SOOO know how you feel. We were fingerprinted last Thursday and I am doing the exact same thing everyday!!!

So cool you are from Murfreesboro...Scott's parents and one sister live in Franklin, just up the road from you. They go to Franklin Christian Church, don't know if you've heard of it.
Anyway, we are planning on being down there for Thanksgiving, it would be cool to meet for lunch or something!

Good Luck on the waiting!!

I can totally relate to the LONG wait for your I 171H! I am so sorry. I know exactly how that walk to the mailbox feels every single day. It will be 5 weeks of waiting for us tomorrow, and I want to throw up at this point every time I get home from work and walk to the dreaded mailbox. :) I feel your pain, and I really hope your approval comes soon! Won't it be fun to move on to the next step after that little piece of paper comes??
